There are more things than doing "code reviews" when we talk about caring how things are coded. And yes, security reasons, some do checks depending on the language use. Scripts can be checked, compiled language will go through penetration testing etc. Of course, it really depends on whether one gets to do software development at that level or whether school projects level of software development is sufficient.
