Not trying to dispute any points here since I'm not living in America. Just wanna share that the hardworking healthcare workers (non-doctors) were also not well compensated in many other countries. As for people working to death, literally, I believe Japan is the most famous, or infamous. But maybe the situation is different: In Asian context, it is culture and value system that drives the employees to work long hours, not necessarily because of the company policy.
As for wages, I think your point has to be more specific. It is well-known that certain US companies paid so damn high that many can afford to retire at 30 years (basically FAANG) and go on to be YouTubers and writing articles online talking about why they quit $350,000 at Netflix because they are bored (of doing A-B testing). So there are really a spectrum here. Some are overpaid because they went into a rich company, most are underpaid.
