My suggestion is for you to go back to school and take proper computer science program if you are really interested in this field. And no, testing is not the answer, it is supplementary if you really know your stuff. There are many "theoretical" stuff that are actually also very practical when it comes to designing a program and achieving efficiency at runtime and robustness of the program.
