It’s about respect and discipline

Recently on LinkedIn, I kinda had enough with posts regarding not adhering to work timings because one is able to finish his/her work and I rebutted a popular voice on LinkedIn.

I had thought that I will be receiving a lot of negative comments because I went against popular opinion.

From the amount of “likes” in the screenshot above, you should know that the person who posted this has a lot of followers. But it is exactly this kind of “influencers” who can cause the most damage.

While I am not against not micromanaging, I have an issue with the use of punctuality as an example.

Punctuality is important. It is one of the most basic virtue no matter whether it is at work or just meeting of friends and family for dinner.

Punctuality is about respect. Respect for people’s time and respect for your professionalism. It is also about respecting yourself. It tells people of your ethnics, your self-discipline, and whether you are someone who is dependable and trustworthy. If I cannot even trust you to be on time, can I rely on you for anything important?

Also, in today’s world, most work are not self-contained. People rely on each other in order to get things done. If someone is late for an hour, and others depended on…
