In our course of work in the technical sector, most likely than not, a technical lead plays a huge role in the development and the success or failure of a technical project. And I’m sure that more than a fair share of you have encountered “tech leads” that are less than desirable.

Having played the role of a developer, a technical leader, a technical business analyst, as well as an interviewer, I guessed I would be mildly qualified to give you my 2-cents on what we would expect from a technical lead.

While this article may be specific to a technical lead, the principles can be applied to leadership roles in different industries.

1. Strong domain Knowledge, understanding requirements, and good relationship with stakeholders

If you have browsed recruitment websites and even gone for interviews on where more senior roles were on the plate, you shouldn’t be surprised to see that they would have required you to have “At least 10 years of experience in xxx in a senior role/capacity”. That is not a coincidence nor is it an arbitrary requirement designed to build a barrier to entry. Now, let’s break down this one sentence. It actually consists of 3 explicit parts and here are short explanations:
